Maybe we all have a bit of Judas in us in the end…

Sermons and audio

A solitary daffodil with a drooping bloom Sure, we can just write this off as Jesus getting angry and snapping at Judas. But then why would John insist on putting it into the Gospel? What is the prophetic word that Jesus is speaking to interpret this sign?

Judas is thinking of Jesus as a means to an end. Mary sees him as the focus of her life.

The contrast of the attitude of Mary with that of Judas is unmistakable. Mary offered her best to Jesus in sacrificial love; Judas was coldly quid pro quo. Jesus interested him only as a ladder for his ambitions.

And what if that’s true for most of us… would it change how Jesus acts towards us in the end?

I’ve always thought of this story as pointing out the importance of worship. Focus, as you said, on God.

I loved your sermon, Bishop Nick! And Mary of Bethany is my favorite Biblical character after Jesus. She is in love with Jesus and she is my model. Blessings to you!
