Google turns on CalDAV support

Web/Tech

Google has turned on iCal DAV support for Google Apps and for Google Calendar.

If you’re an Apple user – or a Thunderbird user – this is a big deal. It means you can now directly access and edit your calendars on Google locally in iCal on your computer without having to use a third-party syncing solution.

There are pretty detailed instructions about how to set this up. I was able to get my calendars up and running without any trouble.

This is like when Google turned on IMAP access for gmail. It’s really a game changer for those of us who want to be able to access our data across a number of different computers.

Yay.
