Hobson observes that the forces acting within the Church of England to effect its reformation are being retarded by the forces of the secular government that are in play because of the CoE’s establishment as the state church of Britain.

He concludes his not with the following quote about what will happen because of the built up tension blocking the natural reformation:

The consequences for the Church of England will be dramatic. It will implode. The old Catholic-Protestant split will finally bring it down. Amid the rubble we will be able, by grace, to build a new sort of Christian culture. But not until then. So bring on the rubble.
