The phrase that comes to mind is that it is *a more banal evil* than a world-controlling megalomaniacal AI entity, such a “The Entity” in the recent Mission Impossible films, but going way back in culture and film, such as Colossus: The Forbin Project, numerous Star Trek episodes, and the Terminator series.
