Final Day Reflections from General Convention

General Convention / Uncategorized

The final day of our General Conventions (this is my 10th) is always bittersweet. It’s part legislative body and part family reunion. The final day is when we start hammering away on getting everything bolted down, but it’s also the day when you see the halls and exhibits being broken down and packed up. We won’t be together again in the same way for three years…

We did a bunch of things (as the kids say these days). I made a little video as a way of sharing my reflections.

Thank you so much for your comments! I was following as closely az I could. So again many thanks. PB elect Rowe sounds like just what we need. So congratulations.

Thank you for the encouraging comments on the work of the General Convention and reassuring reflection on the newly elected Presiding Bishop.

Strengthening the work of the church in Native American lands is of particular note given the fact that likely most Episcopal churches stand on land once belonging to native Americans, including I suspect in Rhode Island as well. Issue of practices at some missionary schools is something the Church needs to atone for in a more deliberate and constructive manner.

Residing in SW Florida where the inflow of people both from within and without the U.S. is
expanding rapidly, I wonder if this state was included in reflections on how the Episcopal church can better organize itself to minister to centers of population growth. Most of the discussion at Convention appears to have been focused on contraction and consolidation.

It would be useful if the Episcopal Church forged a more dynamic presence in this environment, at least in centers of rapid population growth.
