What’s your absolute favorite Bible verse?

Blogging / Religion

Maple Anglican (@mapleanglican.bsky.social) over on BlueSky posted a question this afternoon asking people to share their favorite verse in the entire Bible. What a great question.

Mine is “And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14). I can barely read that without tearing up at Christmas each year.

What’s yours? Is there a particular reason?

John 14 -1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God a ; believe also in me. 2My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. ” it is so comforting

My fav verse is Colossians 2:2 especially as translated or paraphrased by Eugene H. Peterson. Paul tells the Colossians “I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know about God. Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God’s great mystery. all the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else. It’s one my wife and I shared at our wedding ceremony. It reminds me that being together in Christ is part of the deepest sharing and opens all of our living to God’s love.

Strange that the church there didn’t last. But the line about a “tapestry of love” and God’s mystery is a beautiful description of the church complimenting others such as Christ’s bride and a body of many different parts. It is also a “mystery ” how the Spirit plays a role.

Yeah. John 1:1. With 1:14 as a chaser. For the reason you said.

Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man/mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy/kindness and to walk humbly with your God.” A pretty succinct summation of how to live and love others.

Mine is : Matthew 28:20- Remember that I am with you always, even until the end of time

  6. Yours is a wonderful verse! The verse that comes to mind for me is Revelation 13:8 “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Emphasis mine. That blows my mind!

Come unto me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matt 11: 28-29
This invitation from Jesus is so inviting and exactly what we need to hear so often in our lives.

    My absolute favorite scripture is:
    God’s “Valentine” to me…(Luke “2:14”)
“Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth Peace to men of good will”
Other translations read: “…goodwill towards men”
    Additionally, my next favorite is:
    “it came, to pass”…!!!
Truly the most meaningful scripture for me (being vegan) is (Num 11:33-34)
“33 But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was aroused against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague. 34 So he called the name of that place [a]Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had yielded to craving.
    And (Google search):
The Bible states that God will “…destroy those who destroy the earth”12. This is part of the Edenic covenant of God with mankind, which states that humans are responsible for the environment and the damage done to it, and that the wicked will be punished for this damage3. Solomon writes that the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, and therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil1.

1 Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.” Because it speaks of the nature of love. Also because I’d love to ask Paul if this was his memory of his experience on the road to Damascus.

  10. Christopher S Howland says

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus” Philippians 2-5
I am fascinated envisioning what our world would look like today if we lived these words.

  11. Luke 1:37 — the verse that (alas) is left out of the Ave. With God all things are possible. Or for God. Or something like that.

Deuteronomy 30.19 I have set before you life and death, choose life…

  13. Betsey Rice says

    Romans 8:38-39
“….nor anything else can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
