Early morning thoughts…

General Convention

We had a meeting of the Communications legislative committee this morning. We had two pieces of business to deal with. First was the question of keeping the requirement that the interim bodies of the Episcopal Church post their meeting times and issues to be discussed. Constitution and Canons had asked to remove that requirement because no one was doing it. We concluded that no one was doing it because there was no clear mechanism in place to be in compliance. We tweaked the language a bit to keep the canon and told folks that instead of using “the Church press” they shall use “the Office of Communication.” We strongly rejected the move to strike the entire requirement.

There was another piece of business that has come up. The idea is to ask the Standing Commission to create some sort of network for sharing ideas and best practices. It’s such a good idea that I immediately ran out and registered “episcowiki.org” Watch for it. Grin.

Lots of talk this morning about the hearings last night. There’s questions about some of the decisions that PB&F is making on the budget and priorities. One of my fears is that by moving yesterday to move Justice and Peace to be the number one priority of the Church and not Evangelism and Reconciliation, we have given PB&F a way to cancel the ad-campaign and use the money to replace the funds cut from Applachian Ministries and Black Colleges. Both need to be funded, but by our action I fear we are really cutting off our nose to spite our face…

People are talking about the Windsor Report hearings as well. Lots of buzz about the conversation Andrew had with Abp. of York (which I posted below.) If I hear anything more substantive this morning about how people are reacting, I’ll try to get it posted.
