More news from Swaziland this morning. Derek is a very sober realist. When he speaks, we need to hear him. Follow the link for the rest of the story. As bad as things are in Swaziland, they are going to get worse before they get better.

“Swaziland is to feel the full brunt of the HIV and AIDS pandemic from 2010 onwards, National Emergency Response Council on HIV and AIDS (NERCHA) Director Derek von Wissel has stated.

By 2010, orphans resultant from the HIV and AIDS pandemic will have increased from the present 70 000 to about 120 000, close to E150 million (USD25 million) will be spent on Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) alone for those living with the virus, disclosed Wissel to a stunned audience.”

Things in Swaziland are certainly grim, but there are ways to help. There is a new charity project launched earlier this year called Young Heroes (http://youngheroes.org.sz). This organization is working to meet the immediate needs of AIDS orphans by reaching out to foreign donors. Responsible charity, check them out.
