Cool article today about the Sun’s sunspot cycle. This effect (referenced in the article) helps to explain the cyclical nature of the cycle. The latitude/time dependence was already pretty well understood. BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Sun ‘sheds its skin like a snake’
