Beyond the Last Word – now live!

Weblogs

Here’s a new thing we’ve just started at the Cathedral:

Link: Beyond the Last Word.

Welcome to Beyond the Last Word, an invitation to open-minded listening and dialogue initiated by members of Phoenix, Arizona’s Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Our conversations take their topical cue from Speaking of Faith, public radio’s weekly conversation about religion, meaning, ethics and ideas.

I’m so happy to have had a small part in getting this project up and running. The intention is to make this new space into an online Adult-Forum for people from the congregation (and other interested parties) to have a chance to share in stimulating conversation; even if they can’t make it to a regular weekly Sunday meeting time.

As far as I know, this is the first parish based project like this that’s gone live. If there are others, we’d be grateful to hear something about their experiences. If not, we’ll be glad to share ours, once we have some. Grin.

Thanks to all the folks at the Cathedral who have agreed to participate as authors or moderators.

Nick, this is a great idea. I will be watching to see how this goes.
Most parishes see the web as an opportunity to run a large, static billboard, much like a huge electronic yellow pages ad. I have seen very few attempt to explore the possibilities of a new interactive media. (Of course, not every parish has a rector (or Dean) who can write their own HTML!)

  2. Greetings,
We are honored and delighted to see that Trinity Cathedral is using SoF content to continue the conversation in Phoenix. I invite you to let us know how your discussions develop, and whether there are other sorts of materials you would find useful to help shape or guide them. Please do be in touch. Best wishes from Krista and everyone at Speaking of Faith.

  3. What you cats are doing is really cool. And it looks like you have a strong leader to shepherd the discussion and let it evolve. We’re honored that you find the program and site as a useful starting point for discussions relevant to your community.
As the dialogue evolves, I’d love to hear your thoughts on aspects of the site and the program you found most beneficial, what’s lacking, all that kind of stuff. And, if you don’t mind, I’d be interested in chiming in from time to time. Boy, you’re really making it happen — groovy.
